Richland Students Enjoy New Library Mural
Thanks to artist Tiffani Jakovac and the PTO, students at Richland Elementary School have a new colorful mural to enjoy in the school library.
Members of the PTO sponsored the mural and collaborated with Mrs. Jakovac, Andrew Hovanec, school librarian, and Jenna Rucker, principal, to create a piece of art that would inspire students.
The mural spans three walls, incorporating beloved storybook characters, animals and inspirational quotes, connecting a bookshelf on one wall to a large book on another, all via a bright rainbow.
“It was truly amazing how Mrs. Jakovac did everything we asked,” said Mr. Hovanec. “Her inspirational mural in our library brings so much joy to all of our students. The smiles and displays of pure shock from our students were simply heartwarming.”
Mrs. Jakovac has been painting since she was in the second grade in what she describes as her favorite hobby. Mrs. Jakovac, who works as a custodian at Pine-Richland High School, worked evenings and weekends throughout the summer after her regular shifts to ensure the mural was ready for students on the first day of school.
Lauren Oeler, president of the Richland Elementary School PTO, shared her gratitude to the community’s fundraising support that made the project possible.
“Tiffani is now part of our RES story!” said Mrs. Oeler. “We thank her for her dedication in transforming the library into a vibrant space that nurtures our children's educational and emotional growth.”
“Our school can not thank her enough for how great the mural is for our library,” said Mr. Hovanec.
